Anthologies

Summary: This document will outline details about the Anthologies update to eReserve Plus for the Book resource genre type

Introduction

An anthology is a compilation or collection of work by different authors, chosen by the compiler and published as one book. It may also be referred to as an edited book. When managing resources for communication to students, anthologies present a particular problem, as the work in each chapter, is often authored by a person or persons other than the book editor(s). This may give rise to author attribution, i.e. when the work in a chapter is attributed to the editor(s) of the book and not the author(s) of the chapter. The anthologies update to eReserve Plus, allows Librarians and Faculty members to specify whether a Book resource is an edited work or anthology.

Faculty Interface

When creating a new Book resource via the Learning Management System, faculty members will be presented with a mandatory field for anthologies named Edited volume or anthology. This field is by default set to No which indicates the authors need to supplied for the Source Document.

Anthology option is set to 'No' for this resource

If the Edited volume or anthology field is set to Yes, indicating the source document is an anthology then the Author(s) field for the Source Document form (on the left hand side) will be hidden and an Author(s) field will appear in the Reading form (on the right hand side). This will allow faculty members to provide the authors for the Reading (e.g. a chapter) rather than the Source Document as required for anthologies.

Library Interface

For Librarians, there are three different interfaces that the Edited volume or anthology field is present. It is present in Readings Management when creating and editing a Book resources, in Requests Management when reviewing Book requests and in Lists Management when a new Book resource is being created.

The Edited volume or anthology field in all three interfaces will default to No requiring the population of the Author field on the Book (i.e. the source document). If the librarian chooses Yes then the Author(s) field will be hidden on the Book and no longer required. However, when completing the Reading form the Author(s) field for the Reading will be require when Yes is chosen
